Cliche Fest 2011

Days like yesterday make me glad to be an American.

Now before you assume what I am directly referring to is the 634 point drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.  Nope!  I’m referring to the sad, used up, and sometimes comical cliches that get tossed about like a prostitute working shore leave.

Some of the better ones I heard yesterday were; Barakolypse, Obamageddon (my personal favorite), Obamination, and of course, Obamacare.  These terms get coined and it seems every talking head picks up on them and regurgitates them to death.  There is no comedy in the fact that our economy as well as the overall world economy is plunging into chaos, and countless peope are losing their life savings.  So, I’m not poking fun at peoples losses, but, just have to take a crack at the crutches folks in the media continually lean upon to get through their tiny little 2 and 3 hour shifts.

My single-most irritating phrase that is overused is ‘at the end of the day.’  This is a favorite not only of the pundits, but of their ‘expert’ guests, political figures, law enforcement, and just about anyone that gets their mug on the tube.  But, at the end of the day what really matters is that they ‘think’ they are being witty.

As an aside, what is up with the current administration not being willing to call people who murder in the name of their religion as ‘terrorists,’ but, fling the term ‘terrorist’ around like frisbees when talking about patriotic American public servants who stand up for what is right?  I’m talking about the Tea Party members of Congress.  Let it be known up front that I am not a member of the Tea Party, but, probably should be.  Here they were demanding cuts in governement spending (money they didnt have) and fixing the mess we have created.  They get squeezed out, and compromise forces them out.  True to what they warned, the Standard and Poors downgrades the US economic outlook to AA+ and the US and world economies promptly begin to tank.  Imagine that, it happened just as they said.  It happened not because of them, but rather because their fiscally sound plans were not adopted.  For this, somehow, the left rationalizes that it is their fault, and labels them ‘terrorists.’  What the heck is that?  It is just amazing that you see John Kerry’s ugly mug on the tv puking out the democratic talking points, blaming the Tea Party for the economic downgrade.  But I digress.

The previous random rant…a courtesy of elected officials refusing to play nice.

Ok, I know this post was supposed to be about overuse of cliches, but, I’ve run out of valuable blogging time.  It is what it is.  I’ll do better tomorrow, providing of course, the world doesn’t come to a violent end!
