Dirty Dancing…Again?

I realize there are obviously 2 different points of view on this movie.  Chicas love it.  Dudes hate it.  When I say ‘dudes’, by the way, I’m referring to real men.  Men who love women, and not in a Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand kind of way either!

Now the one question I can’t help to ask with regards to a Dirty Dancing remake…why?  Good Lord why?  First of all, remaking Dirty Dancing is akin to remaking The GodFather, or Scarface.  For those who love it, there is just no point in remaking a classic, you’re simply just going to ruin it, and tick off a lot of people.  And for the rest of us who hated it in the first place, you have zero chance of picking up new fans.  So with those two likely outcomes, why spend the money to make a movie that essentially nobody will see?  I don’t know, but, I do know this; there is about to be a job opening in Hollywood!

I know that nothing is set in stone at the moment, but do they really think that dragging Justin Timberlake into the Patrick Swayze role is really going to make it happen?  Sure, bringing Mr. Sexy Back into the mix may drag out a bunch of teen and 20-something women out see the movie, but, overall it just sounds like a carrer killer to me.  Hey Justin, a little advice from your ole uncle Jeff… does ‘From Justin to Kelly” mean anything to you?  Holy crap!  Speaking of crap…  the only good thing that ever came out of this classic crap flick, was that hilarious Saturday Night Live skit with Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley.  Come on, you remember teh Chippendale skit?  Good times.’

Well Lion’s Gate, you just go ahead and resurrect this classic nightmare into a modern crash and burn fest all you want, but, as for me, I’m more likely to go lay down cash to see a remake of the Whiz.  Now there was a remake!  Speaking of whiz…time for a bathroom break.

Peace out.
