Hopefully my title grabbed you, especially if you’re one of those uptight folk that get all nuts over people saying the word ‘Christmas.’

I don’t have a particular bone to pick or battle to wage in this blog post, but rather, just felt like having a little ‘public’ reflection time.

As I get older, it amazes me how fast time flies by me.  I know this is a common phenomenon.  I recall being a little kid and hearing my parents lament over the passage of time.  This always seemed a bit of a mystery from a child’s perspective as, Christmas, and for that matter, any good event always seemed to take forever and a day to arrive.  Now, I find myself in those familiar shoes and asking myself, ‘where did the time go?’  All the shopping is done, and now, just the waiting for those magical moments when my two children get their long desired treasures.  The fun for my wife and I is al about that.  Now, don’t jump ahead of me.  As a Pastor and lover of all things Messiah, i and my family are very much in touch with the true meaning of what we celebrate at this time of year.

In fact, that brings me to the ‘meat’ of my blog today.  This isn’t the typical baby Jesus story, but rather a look at the big picture of Kingdom business.  In the book of Matthew, in the 22nd chapter there is an account of a scribe questioning Jesus as tho which was the most important of all the commands.  Jesus replied, quoting places in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, to love the Lord your God with all your heart mind and soul…which better translates as all your time, talent, and resources.

I taught this a little in depth during a leadership meeting at my church this past Sunday.  But for the sake of brevity here, I just want to mention it so that you hopefully take away that one simple line.  I hope you think on it as we near the end of the year and ask yourself if you have loved and served the Lord your God with all your time, talent and resources this year.  If not, I certainly hope you bring it with you into the new year and start it anew.

When it comes right down to it…if you give of your time talent and resources for any reason other than for the Kingdom…then you do it in vain.  Keep the furtherance of the Kingdom of God foremost in your heart as you give of yourself.  God will bless you here and now…but more importantly you lay up treasure in heaven.

Hey Uncle Sam! Fund Me!

leave a comment »

Man, I’ve been listening to the fallout the Feds are going through over the Solindra scandal.  You probably have heard about this solar panel manufacturing company somewhere n California.  Funding was underway during the Bush administration, however, some 2 weeks before Bush left office, they were beginning to pull financing from them, because doubts were coming to light about the viability of this compnay.

Obama comes in and jumps on rushing approval through.  Suspect is the relationship between big Solindra financier, George Kaiser…who is also friends with Obama, and a mighty big contributor to his campaign.  Long story here, but suffice it to say half a Billion dollars of stimulus money given to this company…then they go belly up!

Geesh!  If this is the way the Obama administration is conducting stimulus, then I think I’m going to apply for some cash.  Jeff Grillo Media, could certainly use an infusion of cashola.  You know, I wouldn’t even have to collect hundreds of millions of dollars.  Shoot, I’ll take a modest 20 million buckeroos, and I’ll hire a boatload of workers and pay them a few years, whether we get any work or not.  I won’t even file bankruptcy…I promise!

What other businesses could I start?  Hmmm…  Maybe I could start a blogging company.  No worries wordpress!  What I’m talking about is getting me a nice fancy office.  Then, I’ll hire a staff consisting of secretaries, book keepers, a coffee girl, maybe even a full time massage therapist or two, and two or three people to scan the web, tv and radio for goofy stories for me to write about.  Hey, it’s no worse a waste of taxpayer dollars than anything else Obama has been tossing about.  Just my opinion, but don’t be surprised to see me on TV when I get my millions from y’all!  lol

Love ya, mean it, bye!

McDonalds’…Made in China

leave a comment »

FOX News, this morning, aired a very funny clip from Jay Leno.  It went something like this.  “McDonalds’ has just announced some 700 new restaurants that they are opening in China.  Wow, that’s great.  Now every kid in China can get a happy meal with a toy prize that they made.”  Again, something like that.  But, it brings up a few thoughts…

First…Will families in China, who have ‘a’ child be able to afford a ‘happy meal’?

Secondly…Do they raise cattle in China?  Are all these beef patties and formed chicken product nuggets going to be exported TO China?  Hmm…if so, that’s quite a change.

Thirdly…Will a Big Mac combo with a Coke, also come with a fortune cookie?

You know…I didn’t much care for Donald Trump as a potential Presidential candidate.  But back when he was entertaining the idea of running, he did make alot of great points…especially regarding the trade imbalance with China.  One point he made was that we are not playing on a level playing field.  China manipulates it’s currency making it easy for China to export to the US, but very difficult for the US to compete and in turn, export US goods to China.  Hey McDonalds’!  Let’s get those commie pinko Chinese!  How about you use those 700 stores to even the playing field, and bring back some of those Chinese dollars…or whatever their currency is called…back over here!  Here’s a 2 for 1 special.  How about you double the price of everything you sell them.  Thereby, each 1 item is now the price of two!  Then start funneling that cash back here to the US.  Lo and behold, an influx of Chinese money to the US that is NOT in the form of a loan!  Ta da!  Foreign policy made simple.  Then, how about we get some American…or better yet, ‘undocumented’ workers….oh let’s call them what they are…illegal aliens here in the US….deport them to McDonalds slave labor camps in China.  We’ll make them don the polyester uniforms and sling  burgers to the commies, and we’ll only pay them what they would have gotten here in the US as, well, whatever they were making.  Less than minimum wage.  This solves another US policy problem.  We get rid of the crime, financial burden, and draw of US healthcare dollars and save that money here.  They get shipped off to China where they make money for the US.  Nice change?  But Jeff!  What about these poor ‘undocumented workers’ and their families.  Simple…  It goes back to the point I make over and over again.  If your first act on US soil is to break the law getting here.  Then you continue to break the law by getting forged documents, tax evasion etc…then you are by definition a criminal.  Oh, and you’re not a citizen, so therefore you ahve no frights!  If you want rights…come here legally.    Just a thought.

Not the most Christian thing Jeff.  Again…I know it sounds bad, but look at the positives.

What are these ‘immigrants’ looking for?  Work!?  They’ll get it.  And they will get paid, and treated nicely.  McDonalds’ folks are nice.  How can a clown be bad to work for, I ask you?  They get jobs.  We get a reduction in expenditures associated with dealing with illegals.  We even the trade imbalance.  More americans get jobs, due to them now being more readily available.  And Chinese kids get to be fat along with American kids.  It’s the circle of life people!

Does this make me a racist?

Man, I hope not.  I really do love all people.  I’m just trying to think outside the box and come up with answers to lots of different problems, all wrapped up into one solution.  If anything, this doesn’t make me a racist…but rather, just plain goofy.

What can I say?  I tried!

Maybe I should leave the comedy to the professionals.

Dollars for Criminals

leave a comment »

I intended to blog about this when I heard about it yesterday, but got sidetracked until now.    I heard a news report stating that the IRS confirmed that an estimated $4 BILLION annually is paid to ILLEGAL ALIENS.  Yep, i guess the fact that I wont call them ‘undocumented workers’ must mean I’m a racist.  While I don’t think anyone who knows me would say that…the PC police probably would.  I just call it like it is.  If you break the law as your first act in this country…I don’t care what your reasoning is…you are a ciminal and here illegally.  Plain and simple, it is what it is.

So, back to my story, the IRS doesnt give out Social Security numbers to illegals, however, a little loophole in the system allows them to give ‘worker identification numbers.’  These numbers act as social security numbers for illegals.  They can work a job and pay taxes…but here’s the kicker.  At the end of the year they can file their taxes and if their income is under a certain level, they receive their money back, PLUS 41,000 per child that they ‘claim.’  The IRS admits this amounts to the aforementioned $4 Billion annually.

Geez Louise!

Now, when asked why they don’t report these aliens to ICE…they simply replied that it’s not their job.  Additionally, they indicated that their mission was to collect as much tax renue as allowed by law, thus justifying the issuing of ‘identification’ numbers.

I guess this is what happens when you believe that big daddy government ought to run your life.  While I’m not a Herman Kane supporter (even though I like most of what I hear), I do agree with his 9/9/9 stance when it comes to taxation.  9% corporate taxes, 9% personal taxes, and 9% national sales tax.  Thgis levels the playing field, makes taxation fair and based on percentage of income and spending as opposed to arbitrary numbers cooked up by politicians.  Also, as Mr. Kane so aptly put in the debate last night, ‘if 10% is good enough for God, then 9% ought to be plenty for the Federal Government.’

Look, nobody in their right mind would argue the nation is messed up royally.  But, can we at least all agree that giving away hard earned LEGAL taxpayer dollars to criminals ought to be stopped immediately?

I’m Jeff Grillo, and I approved this message!

Upgraded to ‘Fair’

leave a comment »

Well, it took five full weeks, but, at long last, I have arrived at ‘fair.’  If you’ve been following the posts in the ‘my marathon’ training category, you know that when I started I was in pathetic shape to say the least.  According to the NSCA (national strength and conditioning association) I had a fitness level off the charts ‘poor.’  Determined to not die before my time, and trying to save face amongst friends, family and my blog readers, I kept on!

During Sunday’s 6mile ‘run’ I clocked my 1.5 mile time and lo and behold, I did it!  I made it into the ‘fair’ fitness level.  I barely made, it but, i made it.  Now I have to cut some serious time off my run and i will be average at long last!

While I’m very excited with my progress, I’m starting to question my ability to actually run, and complete a marathon.  I seem to be sucking air a little less fervently at the end of my runs, compared to when I started, I am in quite a good bit of physical pain.  I spent a good part of Sunday night and Monday hobbling around with some pain in my left knee.  Thanks to the old RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) I seem to be in good shape today.  Today is another scheduled rest day, but I have shorter runs the next three days, an off day Saturday and a 7 mile run Sunday. woo hoo?  Ugh!

At any rate…I press on!

I must say at this point I am somewhat surprised that the scheduled running times to seem to be a bit addictive.  I think a significant part of the program is being able to sit down and see each day scheduled out over 26 weeks.  Just focus on one day at a time.  I suggest if you have ever thought of doing something like this.  Get to it!  It’s difficult, but, i think it may draw out of you what you never knew was there.

Good luck!

Chaz Bono

leave a comment »

Well, as I’m sure you’ve heard, we are 2 weeks away from the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars.  Lo and behold ladies and gentlemen ABC is trotting out the bearded lady!  Fresh of it’s carnival sideshow act, and fresh to the DWTS stage.

Chaz…ma’am, sir… you’ve gotta know you are about to be exploited as a freak show attraction.  Why are you doing this to yourself?  First off, it’s Dancint with the STARS!  How in the world do you qualify as a ‘star’???  I suppose you’ve made your rounds on the talk shows because of who your mommy and daddy are/were.  And the bizarre ‘wonder twins’ transformation you are putting yourself through ahs caught the gawking stares of more than a few folks.  Shoot, what am I saying, they had ‘the situation’ on last year.  Hey ABC!  Rename your program to Dancing with the talentless nutjobs.  That’s a little more truth in advertising.  Sorry Cloris Leachman!  I did love you in High Anxiety!  Nurse Diesel…gotta love it.

The true draw for me is to see the answer to the question of who gets stuck with Chaz?  I mean, I she gonna get to dance with someone like Max?  Or will ‘he’ be dancing with that Russian girlie, what’s her name?  Man, either way, you gotta figure whoever draws the short straw is gonna be pretty ticked!  Does he have his new…ummm….how do I say this……plumbing?  I don’t know much about these sort of things, Thank God!  but, if the external plumbing hasn’t been hooked up, won’t that give an unfair flexibility advantage?

For all of it’s freaky goodness, Chaz babe….buddy, I’m pullin’ for ya.  I hope you make it pretty far.  Let’s face it, without you…this year’s show will prove to be a flop.  You are the only ‘person’ of any real interest.  Apparantly the good folks over at ABC didn’t see my earlier blog that pointed out my dream cast.  Oh well, there’s always next year.

Oh wait…let’s speculate some of the songs Chaz might dance to.  Here’s my top 3, please give me your top 3 choices and i’ll post them.

1.  Karma Chameleon

2.  What’s that Stone Temple Pilots song…”Half the Man I Used to be”?  lol

3.  (3) by Britney Spears….let’s face it, if she/he has an intimate encounter with anyone, isn’t that automatically a threesome?

Ok, it’s obvious I need your help with this.  leave a comment with your personal favorites.  You’ve gotta be able to do better than this!

His Honor, Jeff Grillo Passes Judgement

leave a comment »

If this story doesn’t get you all bananas, then I’m not sure what will.  It is another example of how litigious our society has become.  The United States of America has become an ‘entitlement state,’ or as I like to call it, a ‘gimmie state.’

A case out of Iowa is on it’s way to the US Supreme Court.  Basically, a Federal Court has already ruled that an 8 year old girl is not eligible (entitled) to $150,000 in social security benefits from her deceased father.  Here’s why…This little girl was born TWO YEARS after her father passed away from leukemia.  Yes, that’s right…I know you did the quick math… 2 years after his death!  Apparantly, mom decided to VOLUNTARILY go through with IVF (invitro fertilization), again, a completely voluntary decision.

Ok, after a brief pause to sip my delicious cup of coffee, I’m ready to continue.

So, here’s my issue with this insanity.  Why in the world should this mom think that she/her child, is in any way shape or form entitled to any death benefit from her dead dad?  Now sure if she was the product of natural conception and was born say several months after her dad died, yeah, give her the benefits that are due under the law.  However, the mom made a clear cut decision…I will assume and give the benefit of the doubt and say that she got fertilized out of a sincere desire to be a mom to her beloved deceased husband.  I’m ok with that.  I think.  But to consciously make the decision and assume that somehow, now, her personal decision is somehow now the responsibility of the US Federal Government is undeniably absurd!  How about ma’am, that you figured out a way to pay for your own little crumb muncher?  Why not do what you have to do to pay your own way through life?  I’m sorry, but if I’m a judge i have to rule against you.  My ruling would be based on the voluntary nature of your decision to be fertilized via a medical and therefore un-natural process to conceive a child.  That decision was made without duresss, with full knowledge that your dearly departed hubby was no longer in the picture and therefore unable to provide for this child.  Furthermore, if you consciously decided to begin this life long commitment with full knowledge thatyour husband is long gone and therefore so is his financial benefit under US law….I’m sorry, so sad, too bad.  Next case.

Again, I don’t judge the woman for wanting a child.  I’m unsure about how i feel about the whole IVF thing.  To me, it’s weird, but I’m not willing to condemn another person for wanting to do that…IF they are prepared to parent on their own, and can handle the challenge.  What I am willing to pass judgement on however, is the deeply engrained entitlement mentality that this nation hasdevelped.  Great society?  I think not.  A fantastic plan to bankrupt the nation?  yep!

Well, I certainly can’t be the only one that thinks this is nuts…but, then again, you never know.  Please let me know your thoughts.  Sure I want to hear from those who agree.  But, if you think I’m the one thats nuts.  Let’s hear from you too.  Just keep in mind, if you cuss me out, I wont post your comment.  Be clean!

Hey Iowa mom….sounds like you need my new website.  You know, the one for Win at Life!  It is designed to help people facing life’s toughest challenges.

Nice segue huh?
