Justice Jeff’s Way

with one comment

Alright, here is where I make some people angry.  I will state up front that these opinions are my own and are not necessarily those of anyone else on this planet.  All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, etc., etc.

Now that I have said that, i will get a few things off my chest.  Recently a horrible story out of New Hampshhire hit me pretty hard.  Sadly, it is not an isolated incident, or rare occurence.  In fact, it seems to be happening more and more these days.  The little 11 year old girl that went missing, and turned up in the Conneticut River.  I wish I could remember her first name, but her last name is Cass.  Now everything about violence and of course towards, and mruder of children is heinous to say the least.  But the part of this story that I am focusing on is the side that deals with the household dynamics.

Again, as of the last I heard, nobody has been charged in this case, but the set up is way too common.  Here’s what I mean. You have a single mom who hooks up with some mental case, and brings them into the house and give them access to their children.  In this particular case, I believe the step-dad has a history of mental illness, restraining orders and who knows what else.  In other cases you hear about the guy that is now brought into the house has a history of violent crime, and even sexual abuse of children. I remember a week or so ago here in the Charlotte, North Carolina area a similar situation where a precious 2 year old little girl was hospitalized, and later died from head injuries allegedly inflicted by the woman’s live-in boyfriend…you guessed it, a child molester.

Here’s the rub…

In my opinion, legislation should be enacted that would hold the biological parent equally responsible for any crime against a child that is committed by the ‘man’ that is brought ito the home.  Whether they live with them or not.  It should be imperative that the parent, (and of course it could be the dad, although usually seems to be the mom), to be certain of the background of any adult that is introduced to their children.  Every parent should have sense enough to be more interested in the welfare of their own flesh and blood, rather than their next ‘hook up.’

I know this is pretty harsh, but, if such a law was to exist, I believe that for many, extra caution would be taken when getting involved with someone when they have children.  Lives can and will be saved.  Abuse of some, will be prevented.  Sadly, there are those that will still put their own emotional, physical or financial ‘needs’ above the safety of their sweet little children.  It is for those that I say, serious prison time and equal responsibility should be required.

What say you?  I want to hear from you.  Give me your feedback on this.
